This PR refactors these changes made by nodereal, extracting them into a separate file, to reduce merge conflicts. It is based on the official v1.0.3 tag and added the nodereal modifications on top of that.
The first 5 commits were cherry-picked from "nodereal-op" branch.
So I suggest reviewers skip the first 5 commits and focus on the remaining commits instead:
