Summary

This PR adds a complete 1:1 Simplified Chinese translation (README.zh.md) of the main documentation and a PyPI-safe language switcher at the top of README.md to improve accessibility for Chinese-speaking ML researchers and developers.

Changes

  • Added README.zh.md: Complete, natural Simplified Chinese translation of README.md, covering:
    • Recommendation note for LightEval for newer LLM evaluation workflows
    • Overview of Evaluate's metrics, comparisons, and measurements across NLP, CV, and custom datasets
    • Documentation links, Hub discovery links, type checking, metric cards, and community metrics
    • Installation instructions via pip
    • Core API methods (list_evaluation_modules, load, compute)
    • CLI guide for creating and publishing new evaluation modules (evaluate-cli create)
    • Credits to @marella for the PyPI namespace
  • Updated README.md: Added a centered language navigation switcher (English · 简体中文) using a PyPI-safe absolute GitHub URL (https://github.com/huggingface/evaluate/blob/main/README.zh.md) so links work properly on both GitHub and the PyPI evaluate package page.
  • Formatting & Fidelity: Preserved all badges, banners, code snippets, and external documentation links 1:1.

Maintenance Commitment

I am happy to help maintain and sync README.zh.md whenever upstream documentation updates.
