Keep Chat and Document side by side at 500px and above; use the mobile layout only below 500px. Narrow split windows reveal focused toolbar controls and temporarily shrink Chat while preserving its preferred width. Split margins respect landscape safe areas, and the Projects drawer retains its independent breakpoint.
Regression checks protect drafts and mounted panes across resizing, keyboard containment, saved-width restoration, safe areas, and the Projects drawer. Focused tests, types, and local CI pass. Also verified with the wider default Chat pane from #244.
