On competition 17866, the submission 941951 has crashed after a few minutes because of a fail of the submission status (sending the update to the submissions api):

But what happened is that during 26 hours, the submission was in "running" status. The participant could'nt know that its submission has failed.
A more robust behavior would be to catch the exception and retry to update the submission status.
