GitHub retires the macos-14 runner image on November 2, 2026. The MATLAB MEX jobs in test.yml and release.yml were pinned to it because R2024b's mex linker needs Xcode 15, and macos-15 images only ship Xcode 16 and newer.

Changes (same in both workflows):

  • The build-matlab matrix now uses include with a per-OS MATLAB release: Linux and Windows stay on R2024b, and macOS moves to macos-15 + R2025a.
  • The "Select Xcode" step now pins an Xcode 16.x instead of 15.x, so the build won't break when the image's default Xcode changes.
  • package-matlab and the Python jobs are unchanged.

Things to check:

  • The macOS MEX now builds with R2025a. Mac users on R2024b might not be able to load it.
  • The macOS MATLAB job needs to pass on CI to confirm that R2025a + Xcode 16 works.

The macos-14 runner image is retired on November 2, 2026. macos-15
images ship only Xcode 16 and newer, which R2024b's mex linker does not
support, so the macOS MATLAB jobs in test.yml and release.yml move to
R2025a and select an Xcode 16.x instead of 15.x. Linux and Windows MATLAB
jobs and the packaging job stay on R2024b.
