Proposed changes

Fixes an issue where incoming external SIP calls may be incorrectly dismissed before the user can answer them.

  • Updated iOS VoIP signal handling to distinguish accepted notifications from legitimate call termination signals.
  • Updated Android incoming call dismissal logic to handle acceptance notifications and multi-device call pickup correctly.
  • Added regression tests covering external SIP signals, multi-device pickup, hangup handling, and local call answers.

Issue(s)

Fixes #7702

How to test or reproduce

  1. Run the relevant Android and Jest regression tests.
  2. Verify that an accepted notification with a non-matching signedContractId does not incorrectly dismiss the incoming call.
  3. Verify that legitimate acceptance on another device preserves multi-device pickup behavior.
  4. Verify that genuine hangup signals still dismiss the call.
  5. Verify that existing local call-answer behavior remains unchanged.

Live external SIP call testing requires a configured SIP server and trunk.

Walkthrough

Android and iOS now require an "accepted" notification before treating a foreign signed contract ID as acceptance on another device. Android retains dismissal for "hangup" notifications. Added tests cover these signal conditions and a media-session readiness gate.

Changes

Incoming Call Signal Gating

Layer / File(s) Summary
Gate dismissal on signal values
android/app/src/main/java/chat/rocket/reactnative/voip/VoipIncomingCallDispatch.kt, android/app/src/main/java/chat/rocket/reactnative/voip/VoipNotification.kt, ios/Libraries/VoipService.swift
Android extracts the dismissal rule into a helper and uses it in the DDP handler. Android and iOS treat a foreign signed contract ID as acceptance on another device only for an "accepted" notification.
Test dismissal conditions
android/app/src/test/java/chat/rocket/reactnative/voip/VoipIncomingCallDispatchTest.kt, app/lib/services/voip/MediaSessionInstance.test.ts
Tests cover accepted, hangup, and other signal values, as well as matching, foreign, null, and empty contract IDs. A media-session test verifies that a signal without an "accepted" notification does not invoke the acceptance readiness gate.

An accepted notification with an empty contract ID can prematurely end an iOS call; this is a narrow edge case, so the PR remains mergeable with the guard fix tracked.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Exclude empty contract IDs from acceptance dismissal.

If an "accepted" signal contains signedContractId == "", this condition treats it as another device’s ID and ends the CallKit call. Android rejects the same input. Require a non-empty signedContractId before comparing it with deviceId.
