The setting appears in device settings and controls microphone indicators, microphone selection, and speaking-while-muted notifications during calls. ChangesSpeaking detection

Suggested reviewers: Merge Risk: 🔵 Low · up to The setting controls the microphone indicators and call notification as intended. The German title may suggest speech recognition, but its description clarifies the feature; this bounded wording issue does not block merging. Security Architecture ReviewSecurity architecture risk: 🟡 Moderate · up to The new default-on call behavior can request background microphone capture without the eligibility checks previously used for automatic speaking detection. Browser microphone permission still applies, and the detector does not publish audio. The impact is bounded to local microphone monitoring, but this is a meaningful privacy-control change. - Around line 23-24: Update the setter in usePersistedToggle to persist the new
value before calling _setEnabled, and only update React state after the storage
write succeeds. Reuse the app’s existing storage-failure handling to surface
write errors without changing the toggle state.

to describe speaking-activity detection rather than speech recognition, using a

💡 Overview
Adds a Speaking detection on/off setting to the dogfood app (Settings → Device settings). Some audio devices misbehave when the app listens to the microphone in the background, and this lets people turn that off.
📝 Implementation notes
When the setting is off, the app turns off:
The choice is saved in
localStorage, so it stays the same between sessions.🎫 Ticket: https://linear.app/stream/issue/REACT-1209
