Dear LinuxONE Open Source Software Developer,
To further enhance the IBM Z and mainframe capabilities available through the IBM LinuxONE Open Source Software Cloud, the IBM team will be installing a new IBM Z17 at Marist University during the week of September 7, 2026 and removing one (1) of the Z15s/LinuxONE machines.
As a result, some of the Open Source Software Cloud servers will be offline September 8, with service expected to be restored by September 15, 2026.
We understand that this planned outage will impact ongoing open source work and we apologize for any inconvenience. We appreciate your patience as we complete this important infrastructure upgrade. As we move fully to Z17, the second phase of OSS server migrations will take place later in the year, then all Open Source Software Cloud servers will be on Z17 hardware.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding the outage, please reach out to Lyz Josephs (lyz@ibm.com) or Bruce Gilkes (bgilkes@us.ibm.com)
Thank you for your understanding and continued participation in the IBM LinuxONE Open Source Software Cloud.
The servers with these IP Addresses below will be affected during this outage.
I've omitted the rather long list of IP addresses. A quick search of our IP addresses for LinuxONE (*-ibm-rhel8-s390x-* and test-linuxonecc-rhel9-s390x-*) indicates that
- Our release machine,
test-ibm-rhel8-s390x-1 is not in the list (unaffected).
- One of the four rhel8-s390x test machines,
test-ibm-rhel8-s390x-4, is in the list.
- Three of the four rhel9-s390x test machines are in the list.
So we might need to temporarily suspend testing on rhel9-s390x for capacity reasons during the outage, but should in theory be able to continue testing and releasing on rhel8-s390x.
