.to_raster() for small domains results in blank?

I have a mesh that is about 1000 km^2 with triangles of ~100m in mean edge length. However, when I try to plot it using to_raster() I get a blank plot. What am I doing wrong?

fig, ax = plt.subplots( subplot_kw={"projection": ccrs.PlateCarree()}, figsize=(9, 6), constrained_layout=True, dpi=300)
lat_name, lon_name = _guess_xy_names(da)
xmin = float(da[lon_name].min())
xmax = float(da[lon_name].max())
ymin = float(da[lat_name].min())
ymax = float(da[lat_name].max())
# normalize lon bounds a bit (optional)
ax.set_extent([xmin, xmax, ymin, ymax], crs=ccrs.PlateCarree())
ax.imshow(da.to_raster(ax=ax))

The default plotting works as expected

Can you try the following?

ax.imshow(da.to_raster(ax=ax), origin="lower", extent=ax.get_xlim() + ax.get_ylim())

You may need to set the extent between those two lines:

ax.set_extent([xmin, xmax, ymin, ymax])
